Crain's - By 2050, there are expected to be a million centenarians in the United States. Better detection of disease and advances in behavioral medicine that help us adopt healthier habits are extending lifespans. Centenarians are not outliers anymore. Many people today can expect to live well into their 90s, as average lifespans continue to increase. "Despite a widespread belief that old-age mortality is intractable, life expectancy is not approaching a limit," wrote demographer James Vaupel and historian Jim Oeppen in a recent issue of Science magazine.
